Power in movement

Eternal began on 3 July 2007 as Eternal Dance Studio - a space born from a deep love of music, movement, and community. In the past two years, we evolved into Eternal Performing Arts, expanding our vision to become a creative hub for those passionate about dance, fitness, music, and fashion.

We believe movement is powerful. It’s not just about technique - it’s about expression, confidence, and connection. Eternal is a space where people from all walks of life can come to move, grow, and feel at home in their bodies. Our classes are open to everyone - no experience needed, just a willingness to show up.

Alongside our open classes, Eternal also offers a performance training program for students who want to take their skills further. our training is designed to educate, empower and elevate.

When I first moved to Hobart, I couldn’t find a space to learn and train in styles like Hip Hop, R&B, Afro, or House - especially not one that blended music, dance, fitness and fashion under one roof. I spoke to my mum about it, and she simply said, “Then create it… and the right ones will come.”

That conversation sparked what Eternal has become today - a place where generations come together to move, to feel, to express. Where music brings joy, fashion inspires confidence, and community is everything.

Whether you drop in for a class or join us as a member, we hope you leave Eternal feeling stronger, more connected, and creatively alive.

ROCHELLE DE VRIES

Founder & Creative Director | dance & vocal teacher

Born into a vibrant, musical family in South Africa, Rochelle de Vries has been immersed in the arts from the very beginning. Her father - a gospel artist - introduced her to the world of performance, and by age 10 she was touring professionally, singing in the choir for renowned US gospel artist Ron Kenoly. That moment marked the start of a lifelong journey in music, dance, and creative expression.

Dance quickly became Rochelle’s second language. Inspired by her first teacher, Shona Peters, she knew early on that she wanted to teach, lead, and build a space where others could experience the joy and power of movement.

After relocating to Australia, Rochelle continued performing and collaborating with celebrated Australian artists including Guy Sebastian, James Morrison, Christine Anu, and Marcia Hines - while planting deep roots in Hobart, Tasmania. In 2007, she founded Eternal Dance Studio, which has since evolved into Eternal Performing Arts - a creative hub that unites dance, fitness, music and fashion under one roof.

With decades of experience across the performing arts and fashion industries - from stylist to buyer, performer to producer - Rochelle brings a unique and holistic vision to Eternal. Her heart is to educate, empower and elevate every person who walks through the studio doors. At Eternal, everyone is valued, and everyone belongs.

CLAIRE THOMPSON

STUDIO OPERATIONS MANAGER | dance teacher

Claire Thompson is a powerhouse of movement, energy and heart - and a core part of the Eternal family. With over 20 years of dance experience and a decade of teaching and choreographing under her belt, Claire is known for creating spaces where people can connect, grow, and move with purpose.

Claire’s dance journey began early, training across a wide range of styles including hip hop, afro, dancehall, house, contemporary, classical ballet and jazz. She’s continued to evolve her craft with international training, learning from some of the world’s leading dance artists and bringing that richness back to every class she teaches.

Since joining Eternal’s creative team in 2014, Claire has poured her soul into the studio - leading classes, shaping performance groups, and choreographing for major creative developments and shows. Now as Studio Operations Manager, she plays a vital role in holding the day-to-day rhythm of the studio, while continuing to teach the styles she lives and breathes.

Claire’s classes are all about big energy, big sauce, and movement that empowers you to let go, level up and own your power. She believes in meeting people where they’re at, while challenging them to go further - always with laughter, freedom, and connection at the centre.
